Climate Tech Roundtables Forum @ London Tech Week 2024

The Climate Tech Roundtables Forum at London Tech Week 2024 hosted 100 leaders from the climate tech ecosystem. Special guests included Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, and Anousheh Ansari, CEO of XPRIZE.

Lord Callanan discussed the UK’s efforts in green infrastructure and low carbon business support, emphasising the synergy between economic growth and sustainability. Ansari shared insights on technology and innovation's role in climate solutions, highlighting XPRIZE's achievements.

The event featured nine roundtable discussions on topics such as energy innovation, sustainable mobility, AI & climate data, circularity systems, retrofitting housing, decarbonising buildings, construction innovation, materials innovation, and adaptive food systems.

Tech Nation Climate

The 2023 Climate Policy event, held at the UK House of Lords in partnership with Undaunted: Tackling Climate Change with Innovation, focused on regulatory barriers for climate tech companies, public funding, and supportive government roles. Keynote speaker Lord Adair Turner discussed the challenges of decarbonising the built environment.

The panel highlighted international successes, with Norway's EV strategy and Singapore's regulatory support for net zero. Notable participants included Sarah Hunter, Lord Richard Allan, and Samuel Gill.

The event featured 10 expert-led roundtables on sectors like clean energy, mobility, built environment, home decarbonization, waste, sustainable fashion, carbon removals, climate finance, future of food, and nature.

Ed Miliband, Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero, closed the event, stressing the need for government openness to climate startups and an independent department for technology decisions.

CSO & Sustainability Leadership Breakfast

The inaugural CSO & Sustainability Leadership Breakfast took place last November 2023 at The Gherkin, London, with Edelman as partner of the event. The breakfast gathered sustainability leaders from various industries. John Elkington, originator of the Triple Bottom Line, and Elisa Moscolin, Executive VP of Sustainability at Sage, discussed the importance of qualitative measures in sustainability and the evolving role of CFOs towards broader responsibilities.

Key topics included the necessity of integrating more sustainability experts at the board level, the pivotal role of technology, the importance of sustainability education, and the effective use of sustainability data. Mark McGinn from Edelman highlighted insights from their report on Trust and Climate Change, emphasising optimism, solutions, accessibility of expertise, and connecting policy to personal experiences.

Sir David King, Chair of Climate Crisis Advisory Group, concluded with a call to action on the four R’s: Reduce emissions, Remove excess carbon, Repair the system, and create Resilience.
